La Visciola — Sour Cherry Wine from the Marche (0,5 L)

A recipe from the 1800s, still made in only a handful of hill villages between Ancona and Pesaro. Production is small and has never left its place of origin.

It is so tied to local tradition that the Marche Region lists it as a P.A.T., a Traditional Agri-Food Product, protected as part of the region's heritage.

Visciole (*Prunus cerasus*) are a sour cherry variety: thin, bright ruby skin, soft and juicy flesh, a sweet-and-tart taste with an intense fruity aroma. The wine that comes from them is elegant and balanced, long on the finish, with the cherry clearly present.

It belongs with dry pastries and traditional Marche sweets. With dark chocolate, even better.

The orchard:
About 2.5 hectares in Staffolo, in the province of Ancona, at 442 metres above sea level. It sits on one of the hills overlooking the Vallesina, a valley known for its farmland and landscape.

The slope catches sun from dawn to dusk, and the well-drained soil never holds water. The trees grow strong, and the fruit ripens slowly and evenly.

Serving temperature: 10–14°C
Size: 500 ml
Alcohol: 10.5% vol
Vintage: 2025
Made in Italy

La Visciola tends to please:

- People who don't usually love red wine. It's sweet, fruity and only 10.5%, so it's easy to enjoy without the tannins.
- Dessert and chocolate lovers. It's a natural partner for dark chocolate, biscotti, crostata and dry pastries.
- Fans of fortified or sweet wines like port, Lambrusco dolce or cherry liqueurs, who want something lighter and less common.
- Curious food lovers and Italy enthusiasts. It's a rare regional specialty, rarely found outside the Marche, with a story behind it.
- Gift buyers. The 500 ml bottle, its unusual character and its heritage status make it a good present, including for corporate gift boxes.
- Hosts. Served slightly chilled at the end of a dinner, it makes a conversation starter in place of coffee or liqueur.
